Tour Highlights

Meet & Begin at the Stonehenge Visitor Centre

We meet at 1pm at the Visitor Centre for a brief orientation, to collect tickets, and review facilities. You’ll have time to explore the world-class exhibition, featuring artefacts and interactive displays that bring prehistoric Britain to life. Step inside the reconstructed Neolithic houses, where you can imagine how the builders of Stonehenge once lived, worked, and gathered around their hearths. Then take a short shuttle ride to the Fargo Wood drop-off point, where the adventure begins.

Walk Through Bronze Age Barrows & Ancient Monuments

From the edge of Fargo Wood, we begin our journey past the Cursus Barrow Group – a remarkable collection of Bronze Age burial mounds, some of which once held finely crafted grave goods, now displayed in museums. Heading east, we follow a stretch of the enigmatic Greater Cursus, a 5,500-year-old linear monument whose true purpose remains one of Stonehenge’s greatest mysteries. Its scale and placement hint at an important role in early ceremonial life.

Follow Ancient Trackways to the Ceremonial Avenue

Our path leads down to the valley where the ceremonial Avenue begins its final climb. Here we retrace the steps of Neolithic people 4,500 years ago, walking the ancient processional route towards Stonehenge. Along the way, your guide - a local historian and astronomer with 15 years of Stonehenge research - will share insights into solar and lunar alignments, archaeology, and the mythology of this sacred landscape.

Approach Stonehenge for the Winter Solstice Sunset

Experience the powerful symbolism of approaching the monument as the ancestors once did - along the Winter Solstice alignment. At the Heel Stone, we’ll pause to watch the sun set into the heart of the stone circle, just as it did for ancient ceremonial gatherings on the longest night of the year.

Astronomy, Myth & Modern Discoveries

As twilight descends, hear about the latest discoveries and theories: Was Stonehenge a temple to the sun? A place of feasting and renewal? Or an ancient calendar tracking the turning of the seasons? Your expert guide will weave together archaeology, astronomy, and myth for a deeper understanding of this World Heritage Site.

Return to the Visitor Centre

As night falls, we take the shuttle back to the Visitor Centre. Enjoy time for souvenir shopping or a warm drink in the café before we say farewell.
